We were brought on by Cameron Advertising to fabricate a series of wall-mounted display units for Benefit Cosmetics. These pieces were based on existing makeup, so our first step was to 3D model each unit for accurate scaling and proportion.
The masters were 3D printed in PLA and finished to a high-gloss surface through a combination of sanding and polishing. From there, we used a brush-on silicone mold technique to allow for rotational casting—keeping one side open to embed a wood plank with wall anchors for mounting.
To reinforce the structure, the casts were filled with tinted rigid expanding foam, locking in the internal mounting hardware while providing strength and stability. After casting, each unit was carefully cleaned and prepped to remove any oils or mold release agents before painting.
Each display was primed and finished with Alsa Easy Chrome, first with a gloss black base coat, then chrome sprayed through an HVLP gun for a silver finish. Once cured, we applied custom-cut vinyl labels, and for the freestanding pieces, added laser-cut acrylic bases.
These units not only looked sleek and vibrant, but were also engineered to be sturdy, lightweight, and ready for retail environments.
