Chronoscope Camera Prop- Tranquil Legacy (2024)

We were commissioned by Miguel from Yeah Films to create a custom futuristic camera designed to look like it was built in a mad man’s garage. This project blended elements from industrial cameras, Mars rover cameras, and various sci fi design cues.

The entire prop was 3D modeled and printed in SLA resin, with large sections printed as single pieces to make assembly and painting easier. The front lens cover was made from a slice of plexiglass. The paintwork combined acrylics, enamels, and different finishes to achieve a worn, homemade look.

A blinking LED module was installed on the side, with an open cavity inside the body housing the battery and board. The effect was meant to mimic a “reading” or “thinking” light, similar to a hard drive indicator. The handle and base were custom machined from aluminum at a local metal shop.

The remaining components were a mix of scratch built parts and kit bashed elements pulled from old DSLR cameras, projectors, and various electronics. Labels and markings were applied with vinyl to complete the look.

This project was a ton of fun to build, and seeing the final prop on the big screen was incredibly rewarding.
