We were commissioned by PUBG Studios to create 2 life-sized 4ft supply drop crates from their video game PUBG. The crates were designed to be built and displayed inside their offices. Constructed from plywood and XPS foam, the biggest challenge was ensuring they could be repeatedly assembled and disassembled while still fitting through standard doorways. To solve this, the entire build was made modular, with panels that broke down easily for transport. Large custom ratchet straps were also produced to match the in-game look.
Concrete Bases and Environmental Details
The second part of the project involved creating realistic concrete bases to ground the crates in their environment. Instead of sitting on a clean floor, the crates appeared to be lifted directly from the game, adding depth and immersion.
The bases featured a wide range of custom details, including manhole covers, energy drink spills, lane markers, cigarette packs, and Molotov cocktail props. Each base was built from plywood with XPS foam secured around the edges, carved to shape, and reinforced with metal mesh. This provided the grip and strength needed for a vertical concrete mix, which was hand-applied and shaded using multiple techniques for realism.
Each base consisted of 2 panels that could split apart to fit through standard doors. Water spills were recreated with clear water epoxy. The manholes were 3D modeled, printed, and finished with an aged bronze-copper look. Cigarette packs were printed and assembled from paper to match in-game models, while faux cigarettes were rolled from printed paper for added authenticity.
Molotov Cocktails and Energy Drinks
Molotov props were made from plastic wine bottles, sealed and painted green with brown shading, then coated in spray adhesive and dirt. Custom labels with gold foil inlays were designed to match the in-game look, adding a premium detail that was not required but highly appreciated by the client. The Molotovs were made without liquid to ensure safety over time.
Energy drink cans were produced similarly to a previous project. Carbonated water cans were sanded, painted flat white, and finished with metallic blue rims and tabs. Custom vinyl labels were designed and applied to replicate the iconic in-game items.
Final Impact
The combination of the crates and bases created a striking installation that blended physical craftsmanship with the immersive world of PUBG. The result was a centerpiece display at PUBG Studios that stood out as both functional and visually stunning.
