We were tasked with bringing Rocket League to life for an Xbox gaming event in Toronto, creating a real-world arena with RC cars for an interactive 2-player experience—fun for both kids and adults!
The project started with sourcing two identical RC trucks that were easy to control, powerful enough to push a 3D-printed ball, and could handle quick battery swaps after some modifications. We stripped the original branding and applied custom Xbox vinyl decals. The rechargeable batteries were replaced with AA battery packs, which were securely housed in a modified truck bed for easy access.
Since the arena was large, we designed it to disassemble into sections for transport. The frame was built from 2x2s, 2x4s, and sanded plywood, ensuring a sturdy yet lightweight structure. We finished it off with smooth, durable exterior paint, applied with a spray gun for a clean, even look.
This was an exciting hands-on build, and the best part? We got to see it in action! With a little practice, you could be scoring some epic goals just like in the game!
