We had the honor of collaborating with Toronto Defiant to create a life-sized Reinhardt hammer, themed in the team’s colors, for the Overwatch League Summer Showdown. Designed to appear as if it had just been wielded, the hammer was mounted atop a lava rock base and is now a permanent fixture at Defiant’s HQ.
The project began with 2D sketches, which were refined into 3D models and renderings before moving to 3D printing. The hammer was printed in multiple parts using six printers, with the largest print running for eight days straight. After meticulous sanding, priming, and painting, the hammer was finished in a metallic red lacquer with matte black accents, sealed with automotive clear coat, and branded with Defiant logos cut from vinyl.
For durability, the handle was crafted from PVC and ABS pipes rather than 3D printing, ensuring stability and easy transport. The lava rock base was sculpted from styrofoam, coated in vertical mix concrete, and embedded with glowing lava effects made from pigmented silicone and airbrushed detailing.
The hammer was permanently secured into the rock, but not before we got to hold it for a few epic photos! Fans at the event loved interacting with the piece, and it remains a centerpiece at Defiant’s watch parties.
