Xbox Curling Stone

We had the opportunity to collaborate with PTNR Production and Xbox Canada to create this oversized curling stone—with a twist! The goal was to design a functional housing for an Xbox Series S, where the lid/handle could be removed using magnets for easy access.

To achieve this, we started by designing a custom 3D model that incorporated internal magnets and was printed in separate sections. The four halves were then secured with heated metal staples for extra strength. We used Bondo body filler to smooth out the surface before painting the base in grey, applying a textured stone spray for an authentic look, and sealing it with a 2K clear coat for durability and to make the colours pop.

To make the curling stone slide on ice without damaging the 3D-printed base, we added a layer of epoxy to the bottom. The handle was embedded with steel plates at a precise angle so that it would lock securely onto the base with magnets but could be twisted open to reveal the console inside.

Inside, we used charcoal memory foam, wire-cut for a perfect fit to hold the Xbox Series S, controller, and cables.

This was another exciting and challenging project where we took a real object, scaled it up, and added new functionality to make something truly unique. Now, all that’s left is to learn how to play curling…
